MAJOR MRS. GERALDINE KNICKERBOCKER (September 12, 1921 - March 18, 2010) "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." Joshua 24:15 During the afternoon hour of March 18, 2010, with five of her children by her side, Major Mrs. Geraldine Knickerbocker, a great prayer warrior, received a glorious "Welcome" from her Savior whom she knew and loved. It would be a very beautiful meeting, as she served her Lord well. She would be "at home" in His Presence and would have a long-awaited reunion with her husband, Hubert and son, Richard J. who went on before. Geraldine Ethel Farrar was born into the family of Justin and Cora (Schermerhorn) Farrar at Glen Falls, NY on September 12, 1921. Geraldine graduated from Glen Falls High School on June 27, 1939 and became a stenographer and Bookkeeper. At the age of 14, she came into a relationship with Christ on September 30, 1935, at the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Glen Falls, NY. With little encouragement from home, Geraldine endeavored to live for Christ. It was difficult for her, however, she shares that "on February 28, 1938 I attended my first Army meeting. I was deeply impressed by the fact that these people were on fire for God. The next night by my bedside, I again surrendered my life into God's keeping and joy flooded my soul. She became a Senior Soldier on September 12, 1939 and became active in the Corps as a Sunday School teacher, Band member and played the piano. That Summer she heard the 'Call' for Officership." She entered the "Crusaders" Session at the New York Training College from the Glen Falls Corps, NY. She was Commissioned in 1941 to Philadelphia (Northeast - Assistant). Following a break in service, she married Hubert Knickerbocker on January 10, 1942. Her husband Hubert was in the US Army and served for nearly three years in World War II. Geraldine said on her Candidates paper, "During the years when my husband was in the US Army, and especially during the 18 months he was overseas, I learned to lean more completely than ever on Christ." After Hubert returned from overseas, and their third child was born, they bought a home and settled down. It was then that they received a "call" to help at the Corps in Steubenville, NY where they lived. They left "all" and followed the Lord. There was no turning back. Geraldine with three children joined Hubert at his Commissioning in 1948, and many wonderful years of service together began. Following Commissioning, they were appointed to the Ohio Division serving at Cleveland West End (1948); Salem, (1949); Steubenville (1952); Lorain, (1957); Warren, (1963); Youngstown, (1964); Toledo Citadel and Area Coordinator (1972); Reading, PA (1975); Marion, OH, (1978); Lima, OH, (1981) and served as Territorial Evangelists in 1983 until their retirement on September 30, 1987. Major Mrs. Knickerbocker as a mother of eleven children had to get up very early in the morning to have her personal devotions. This practice continued into retirement. Truly she lived out her favorite Bible verse, "as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." (Joshua 24:15). She spent many of her last years getting her household in order, taking every opportunity to speak to each member of a very large family about salvation.
